Artifacts depicting scenes of Ramsis battles unearthed

The Egyptian-US archaeological mission working in Sinai unearthed 10 rocky pieces with scenes from battles that date back to the era of King Ramses II.

The mission also unearthed an ancient plaque that contains a scene of King Ramses II disciplining some of the enemies of Egypt.

Mohamad Abdel-Maqsoud, Director of Lower Egypt and Sinai Antiquities Department, said the find testifies to the past existence of the now-defunct Arinel-Assad (lion's den) Fort in AlQantara East, the second fort on the Horus War Path, across Sinai.

This find also vouches for the engravings of King Seti I on the walls of the Karnak Temple, which represent 12 bastions spreading all over the Sinai Peninsula, three of which were unearthed and the search is still on for the rest, he said.

Meantime, Minister of culture, Farouq Hosni said the number of consultancy and architect offices have reached 420 in the international bid to build the new Egyptian Museum.

The project is under the supervision of UNISCO, said Farouq Abdul Sallam, under secretary of Ministry of culture.

Eleven countries have proposed to participate in the project in financial and technical aspects.
